SHARPIE
Merit – Graphis New Talent Annual 2017

To empower kids to block out cyber bullies, we will create a Chrome Extension that crosses out negative speech and insults typed by peers online. Crossing out the negative words and making them illegible denies bullies the opportunity of reaching their targets.

Kids who are bullied often dread going back to school. The unkind words that young people write and spread can have a permanent impact on their targets. While Sharpies are a new school year essential, they can be used as tools of vandalism and bullying in schools. We’ve all seen the nasty things kids write on walls, lockers, notes and bathroom stalls. Adolescents deface these places because they want their words to be seen by others. The same holds true for what they say about their classmates online.
To prevent these taunts from having a permanent effect on developing kids, Sharpie will use the power of permanence to cross out these insults. When bullies realized that their "work" isn't being seen, they will be less likely to keep going at it.

Snapchat
A snapchat filter will be created to assist people in crossing out bullying. This allows for written bullying of all sizes and simply depends on perspective.
