GENDER EMPATHY

Merit – Graphis New Talent Annual 2017

We focused on the fear women face while walking alone, especially at night. The more women we talked to, the more we heard. Some carry their keys in between their fingers. Some hold their phones, ready to call 911.  Some don't walk alone at all.

Most men we talked to didn't know how prominent this reality is for women. When we talked about our project, many were shocked to hear their closest female friends divulge their personal fears and protection tactics.

We found cases where women had to use everyday objects to defend themselves and put them on a board to make the issue as tangible as possible. We placed it on a college campus to bring understanding of sexual assault to one of the places it happens most.

We then translated the campaign to print and social media to bring the discussion to everyone.
